The University of Liverpool Zero Carbon Research Institute (ZCRI) is a research and consultancy group led by our director Dr Stephen Finnegan and supported by industry sponsored PhD researchers. Its goal is to assist in deciphering the complex carbon landscape and designing strategies to achieve the UK Governments plan for to become Net Zero Carbon (NZC) by 2050.

Did you know that in addition to NZC, there is GHG reporting, Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS), Taskforce on Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD 2025), the new UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UKETS) plus more.

Our work involves assistance with “carbon literacy”, the design of NZC strategies, the calculation of the “embodied” and “operational” carbon impact of products and buildings and the publication of our findings. Click on the menu in the top right to find out more.
